Atlanta is a land of opportunity. The war between the states is a distant memory, and the economy has come back in a big way. But, of course, you are a newcomer to this city, and you probably have some concerns about what it takes to make it in the Capital of the South. That is totally natural; after all, looking for a place to live, finding a new job, and making sure that your children go to the best possible schools are just the most major concerns you are completely justified in having. This is especially true for single parents.

Okay, so where do you want to live? If you already have a job lined up, work from the frame of mind that this is your budget. There are a lot of trade-offs and opportunity costs associated with moving into any apartment. And when you search out apartments to rent in Atlanta, you are going to be doing your best to balance your commute time to the job you have (or will soon have) and being able to get your kids into reasonably good schools. Just because you are a single parents does not mean that you have to compromise on the important things, you know.

After all, the place where you live now is not where you are going to retire one day. And it could just end up being a short memory at the earliest tip of your children’s lives. If you do not have a job, be sure to keep your opportunities (or lack thereof) in mind when you select where you are going to live for awhile. You should also factor in the moving costs you will be incurring when you do your calculations. Remember: job, schools, costs to move in. Once those are locked down, the rest has a tendency to fall into place.

With a prepaid credit card, there are a number of lessons kids can learn about finances. Money is a vast issue that can be difficult for kids to imagine, so going out and using a prepaid credit card can give kids a much better lesson in what money can buy and how consumers use money. The physical use of a credit card is just the first lesson. How to check a balance, make a retail purchase and even the physical act of signing for a purchase are all important lessons that kids need before becoming financially responsible for themselves.

Balancing a Checkbook

With all of the credit cards, debit cards and direct deposit options available, it is still important to know how to balance a checkbook. Using a prepaid credit card can give kids a lesson in budgeting and staying within that budget – a skill that easily carries over into checking. Balancing a checkbook is much like staying on top of a prepaid credit card balance. Balancing the money on the card can teach children how important it is to stay within your means and to make sure that the balance stays on the positive side.

Building a Credit Future

Building a solid credit future depends on taking opportunities to prove responsible fiscal management. With a prepaid credit card, children can start out with a card that makes it possible to build a stable history of responsible card use. Because the card can’t be overdrawn, it won’t come with the possibility of a negative balance and an adverse affect on the child’s credit history. To get started, kids need to have access to these cards and to actively use the. They must see how the cards work and why it is important to never spend more than you are able to spend. This lesson is one of the most important that anyone can learn about personal finance.
